Privacy statement

Short version: we don’t keep your photos or graphics for more than 1 day, we never sell or reuse them, and most of the time your photo never leaves your device. Please download your graphic. We can’t send it to you later.

Who we are

This site (polio.rchh.ca) is run by volunteers of the Rotary Club of Halifax Harbour to support Rotary’s effort to end polio. Questions: contact.

Your photo

• Photo frame, step & repeat, profile picture and message cards are made entirely in your web browser. Your photo is never uploaded to us or anyone else. Background removal also runs on your device.
• Cartoon me (when available) is the only option that sends your photo off your device. We shrink it and strip its hidden data (such as location), then send it securely to our AI provider, OpenAI, to draw the cartoon. We don’t store your photo or the cartoon on our servers; the result goes straight back to your browser. OpenAI’s API may keep submitted images for up to 30 days solely to monitor for abuse, and does not use them to train its models. See OpenAI’s API data policy.
• Before drawing a cartoon, the photo is automatically checked for inappropriate content.

Share links

If you choose a social network button or “Copy share link”, we upload your finished graphic (not your original photo) so that networks like Facebook and LinkedIn can show it. This creates a public link that anyone with the link can view.

• Share-link graphics are automatically deleted within 24 hours, and the link stops working after that time.
• Image metadata (such as location) is removed.
• You can delete your links sooner below, from the same device and browser you used.

What else we collect

• No accounts, no tracking cookies, no advertising.
• To prevent abuse we count how many cartoons and share links come from each connection per day. We store only a scrambled (one-way hashed) version of your IP address, and it is deleted after 24 hours.
• We use Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-friendly check that you’re a human, when you create a share link or cartoon.
• We count how many times the “Give” button is clicked in total per day, with nothing that identifies you.
• Your chosen club and the share links you made are remembered in your own browser’s storage only.
• The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes standard technical data (like IP addresses) to deliver and protect the site.

Donations

The “Give” buttons take you to Rotary International’s secure donation page. We don’t see or handle any payment information.

Your choices

You can use the site without uploading anything, by sharing message cards, fact cards or official graphics. To ask a question or report a concern, contact us.
